Home for all of time...



Jonathan Franklin Carnell, 44, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of steadfast faith, unwavering conviction, and devoted love for his family.
For twenty-two years, Jonathan was the faithful and loving husband of his cherished wife, Christina. Together they built a Christ-centered home and were blessed with six children: Grace, Emma, Megan, Molly, Alice, and Abraham. To them, he was not only a provider but a patient teacher, a humble example, and a father who sought above all to point his family to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jonathan was the beloved son of Leon and Frances Carnell, son-in-law, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. His quiet strength, thoughtful counsel, and consistent character earned him the respect and affection of all who knew him. He invested deeply in others, mentoring many through both his words and his example, always encouraging them to pursue truth and to walk faithfully with God.
Professionally, Jonathan was a mechanical engineer whose careful mind and process-driven approach reflected his God-given gifts. He was meticulous, dependable, and diligent in his work. Those who worked alongside him knew him as a man of integrity, remarkable patience, and quiet persistence, never easily discouraged and always committed to doing what was right.
Above every earthly pursuit, Jonathan loved every word of God from the King James Bible. He delighted in discussing biblical truth, defending the faith once delivered to the saints, and hearing faithful preaching. Even in his final days, his thoughts were fixed on his Savior, speaking of the all-sufficiency of Jesus Christ and finding comfort in the unchanging promises of God's Word. His confidence rested not in himself, but in the finished work of his Redeemer.
Jonathan found joy in life's simple blessings: opening the Scriptures, engaging in meaningful conversations about truth, enjoying home-cooked meals around the family table, singing hymns with those he loved, playing the piano, and exercising alongside friends. These ordinary moments became extraordinary because they were lived with gratitude toward God and shared with those he loved most.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family and friends, they rejoice in the sure hope of the gospel. Jonathan's desire was never to draw attention to himself but to the Lord Jesus Christ. His life testified that Christ is sufficient, His Word is true, and His promises are certain.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by his faithful example. Yet those who know Christ grieve with hope, trusting the promise that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8), and looking forward to the day when death shall be swallowed up in victory.

In place of a traditional receiving line, we invite you to bring a memory of Jonathan or a meaningful experience you shared with him. Remembrance tables will be available for us to gather to write or type our memories, reflections, and encouragements.
It is our prayer that these collected memories will become a lasting gift for Christina, their children, and future generations—a testimony of Jonathan's faithful life, the ways God used him to impact others, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
A private graveside service for the family will follow the funeral.

  This post is actually not about my cancer journey. It's just about work at the BMW plant, but it's too long-winded for the 3,000 character limit on LinkedIn. Themes here do have some applications in other areas than work, like community, nation, family, or church... playing our part with humility and gratitude. But just a quick comment on health: Radiation on the largest lung tumor went fine, but I was more tired and sick than expected for a couple of weeks. I feel really good on the Fruzaqla pill, which is a huge blessing in contrast to other things I've experienced. So on a daily basis it's just hip pain now, I guess still from the bone lesion. My next PET scan is this Wednesday 3/4. Anyway, I have other things on my mind... My daughter Emma painted this picture for me several years ago when I worked in Road Test.   High Level Process Update I’m sorry so much time has passed since I last wrote, but here is a short summary: Systemic treatment is ongoing and has been fairly effective, but not enough to prevent slow and steady disease progression. As an indicator of cancerous activity, the CEA blood test has trended from 3 to 13 over the past year. Not extremely bad, but not good enough. Efforts to surgically remove tumors in the liver and lungs went well, but new ones have grown back in their places according to PET scans, which are in agreement with CEA trends. My oncologist’s interpretation is that this is par for the course for stage IV. We can try going back and forth between pulling “weeds” and using “herbicide” (metaphor for surgery and chemotherapy). But ultimately we don’t have a good enough ways to kill all the “seeds,” and we can only pull "weeds" so many times without impairing function of critical organs (lungs, liver).
